Water Lubricated Bearings (FF Bearings)

The water lubricated bearings (FF bearings) utilize a three-layer structure with rubber sandwiched in between. The FF bearings, which utilize the characteristic elasticity of rubber bearings while incorporating polytetrafluoroethylene, which slides well, on its sliding surface, have ¼ the frictional resistance of standard rubber bearings. By reducing energy loss, they significantly cut fuel consumption and serve as bearings that contribute to reduced CO2, which is the main cause of global warming.

Rubber bearings, which are great for wear- and shock-resistance and vibration absorption, are frequently used as general bearings for water lubrication. However, because rubber bearings are poor at self-lubrication, their disadvantages include instantly burning, especially when there is no water, and generating noise in low revolution areas. At our company, we carried out research to provide the self-lubricating water lubricated bearings (FF bearings) in order to utilize the advantages of rubber while overcoming its disadvantages.

Characteristics of Water Lubricated Bearings (FF Bearings)

  1. Self-Lubrication

Water lubricated bearings (FF bearings) can spin while they are dry for short periods of time. When used for pumps, they enable dry start-up, making things simple by removing the need for auxiliary pumps and protective tubes.
In addition, because they have a good frictional property in low revolution areas, they prevent the stick-slip phenomenon when starting and stopping and generate very little noise, which tends to be an issue for rubber bearings.

  2. Extremely Low Coefficient of Friction

Because rubber is placed between the sliding member and the back metal, the local load is balanced, improving friction and wear resistance. The characteristics of rubber are also utilized for excellent shock resistance and vibration absorption.

  3. Self-Alignment

Because rubber is placed between the sliding member and the back metal, the local load is balanced, improving friction and wear resistance. The characteristics of rubber are also utilized for excellent shock resistance and vibration absorption.

  4. Heavy Duty

Because the bearings can bear heavy weights, they can also be used on large ships. It is also possible to shorten the lengths of the bearings. (JG NK/ABS Certified)

  5. No Risk of Environmental Contamination or Pollution

These environmentally friendly water lubricated bearings have no risk of oil leaks regardless of the size of the ship.

Structure

FF bearings have a shape in which a layer of soft rubber is sandwiched between the shell (outer casing) and the special polytetrafluoroethylene. The sliding member was selected as a result of long-term comparative testing of various materials and produces excellent results as material for submerged bearings. Additionally, the soft rubber layer has an appropriate amount of elasticity to effectively ease the occurrence of high localized surface pressure due to one-sided contact of the bearing surface.
